Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word consisting of two parts, Ayu means life and Veda means knowledge, so this in a combined form means knowledge of life.

Ayurvedic medicine is a more than 2000-year-old system of medicine, which is based on holistic approach.  There are some plant remedies of Ayurvedic medicine, which is found in their medicine literature from the second millennium BC.  The Ayurveda got its key roots from the times of Buddha.

If we go deep in the history of Ayurveda and when more elaborative work was done in terms of detailing the causes of the diseases, it goes back to early eighth century where Madhav wrote Nidana, which was a work on the causes of diseases, symptoms and complications.

The therapies in Ayurveda are mostly herbal compounds.  In Ayurveda where there is treatment for several diseases, there are also treatments for the spider, snake and scorpion venom.  There is a detailed work being done in Ayurveda regarding toxicology.

Ayurveda is an ancient way of treatment and approach towards diseases and it is still very much believed in by people.  There are people who when do find any help from the current modes of treatment, go to the shades of Ayurveda to get the treatment of their problems.

The basics of Ayurveda believe in the knowledge and awareness of the qualities of nature, foodstuffs and activities, etc to humans.  We can give a very simple example to elaborate this concept; the hot qualities in the environment or diet will increase hot qualities in the body because of the similarity in quality.

Ayurveda also works to strengthen the immune system of the body to fight against infections and other foreign bodies to prevent from diseases to take over the bodies.
In summary, Ayurveda represents a system that considers both the states of mind and body in its diagnosis and treatment.
