Child & Adolescent Mental Health

The future of any nation depends on their children and their youth. It is pretty necessary that the mental health of the nation is intact so that they can develop and grow as a healthy nation. The researchers state that there is about one child in every ten children who are suffering from severe mental health disorder that is causing some level of mental impairment.

There are a couple of mental health disorders that I would like to discuss here, these are:

1. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD).
2. Autism Spectrum Disorders.
3. Bipolar Disorder.
4. Borderline Personality Disorder.
5. Depression.
6. Anxiety.
7. Eating Disorder.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is generally diagnosed at an early age. In this disorder the child has lack of attention and the child might or might have the hyperactivity part of the disorder, which is being diagnosed by the physician. If the disorder is left untreated, it can affect the individual in adolescence.

The most common symptoms of ADHD are impulsiveness in which the child acts pretty quickly without thinking. The hyperactivity is being presented when a child can't sit still, runs, walks when others are seated and the child starts talking when others are talking. The child is considered to be inattentive who daydreams and is apparently in another world and completely neglects as to what is going on around him.

Bipolar disorder is a disorder with two extremes. It consists of mania and depression. One can also call it a swinging disorder, in which the person just shifts from one phase to another, which is swinging from depression into mania.

Depression is another pretty common thing that is being seen in both children and adolescents. Depression occurs irrespective of age and it is usually brought on by situations where the children or the adolescents are being snubbed by their peers who call them names, or if they fail in an exam, or if they are being verbally abused by their parents etc. This is a very common disorder and can be corrected by giving importance to the child and a comfortable environment is provided to them where they can share their thoughts and come out of the depressive state. This can also be treated with medicines, which can help the child come out of the depressive state.

Therefore, it is really very important that we all must realize that whatever we do in our day to day life has an impact on another person and we do not pass on any flames from us to others so that we can all live in a healthy environment.
