DETOXIFICATION

Detoxification is an effective technique for healing many health problems.  A detoxification diet can cleanse the body of noxious and hazardous elements. It can restore nutritional balance which you need for ideal health.

Dr. Elson Haas is the director of the Preventive Medical Center of Marin in San Rafael, California.  He says that the detoxification diet recommended in his book Staying Healthy With Nutrition should be used for no more than three weeks.  During those three weeks significant results are expected. The nutritional balance is not designed for long term use.  If you are pregnant or have nutritional deficiency problems or have fatigue, heart problems or frequent feelings of coldness, you should not use this detoxification diet. When eating out, choose foods that are steamed, grilled or broiled instead of those that are fried.  A useful detox diet plan is provided for your convenience.

DETOX DIET

Breakfast

Drink two glasses of water when you first get up in the morning. Add the juice of one half lemon to one of them. Eat one or two servings of fresh fruit. About 15 to 30 minutes later eat one to two cups of cooked oatmeal, brown rice millet, amaranth or un-toasted buckwheat.  Add two tablespoons of fruit juice or use the Better Butter recipe below for flavor variety.

Better Butter Recipe

Stir ½ cup of canola oil (cold-pressed) with ½ pound of softened butter and refrigerate. Use about one teaspoon per meal for flavoring. Do not exceed three teaspoons per day.

Lunch

Eat a large bowl (up to four cups) of steamed vegetables including stems, roots and greens.  Better Butter can also be used. Refrigerate the water from the vegetables for later use.  Within two hours, slowly drink one to two cups of the water from the steamed vegetables, mixing each mouthful with saliva. You may add some sea salt or kelp for flavoring.

Dinner

Same as lunch, with a variety of vegetables.
potatoes, yams, green beans, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, carrots, beets, asparagus, cabbage or others.

Evening (After Dinner)

Eat no food but savor non-caffeinated herbal teas such as peppermint, chamomile or blends. No caffeinated beverages.

Throughout the day

If you feel hungry, drink plenty of water and nibble pieces of carrot or celery. If you are feeling fatigued or if hunger persists, then eat no more than four ounces of protein, such as fish, organic chicken, lentils or garbanzo, mung or black beans around 3 or 4 PM in mid –afternoon.

This is a detoxification diet only. Remember its goal is to cleanse the body and to establish a solid nutritional balance for your optimal health. It is not designed for long-term use.
