Besides OA (osteoarthritis) and RA (rheumatoid arthritis), there are three other main types of arthritis.  They are:

  • Systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE) - Develops in the skin, joints and internal organs and mainly affects women.
  • Ankylosing spondylitis – Normally affects the spine but can also impact ankles, knees, shoulders, heart, lungs and eyes.
  • Gout – Affects mainly men.  About one million men in the US suffer from this form of the disease.  An internal malfunction causes a build up of uric acid that forms into crystals.  These crystals get lodged in a joint, normally that of the big toe which becomes inflamed causing considerable pain.

Today, the main method of finding relief is to effectively manage pain caused by arthritis. There are numerous ways to achieve this - special diets, appropriate exercise regimen, medication, rest and a positive mindset.  Other options are surgery, supplements, home remedies, natural and alternative therapies.

When Arthritis is first detected, it is important to follow medical advice. Once that is in place, check out the other alternatives depending on the time and resources available.

Let’s take a look a closer look at the ways of managing arthritic pain relief.
