Staging Lung Cancer

When the diagnosis of a lung cancer is established, then the next step is staging the disease. The staging of cancer helps to determine the size, extent of spread and involvement of lymph nodes to establish and determine the course of disease and the strategy to perform and design the treatment regimen for the patient.
Lung cancer is known to spread to the brain or bones, and thus with the help of staging the doctors can determine as to how far the tumor has spread. So therefore some of the tests that are used to determine whether the cancer has spread include:

  • CAT (CT) scan.
  • MRI.
  • Bone scan.
  • Mediastinoscopy/Mediastinotomy.
