Sarsaparilla

Other Common Names: Red sarsaparilla, Spanish sarsaparilla.

Latin description: Smilax ornata or smilax officinalis.

Parts to use: Root.

Chemical constituents: Glycosides, steroids, steroidal saponins, essential oil, parillin resin, sarsaponin, sitosterol, stigmasterin.

Actions: Carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic, tonic.

Medicinal Uses & Benefits

Good source of natural plant hormones (testosterone) that stimulate glands to purify body of fatty poisons.
Carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic, tonic; used as a blood cleanser.
Used for gout, rheumatism, colds, fevers, catarrh, flatulence.
Externally, the tea is used as a wash for skin problems, ringworm, and scrofula.

Sarsaparilla contains the hormones testosterone and progesterone. Also vitamins A, C, D, the B-group and many important minerals like Zinc and Iodine.

Dosage
