Allergy Testing Methods

Allergies are acquired abnormal responses of immune system towards any substance that causes irritation to the body. When the body comes in contact with an allergen, it behaves weirdly. This allergy can be of anything; food, substance, pollens, environmental factors etc. Our immune system is responsible to protect our bodies from what they find foreign and what has the possibility to cause possible damage. Allergies occur when the immune system protects our body from one such occurrence by not recognizing the compound such as, sneezing when you inhale pollen or dust, diarrhea when you drink milk and so on.

What allergies basically does is eliminates the item from your body as soon as possible in one way or the other in order to protect your; however, some allergy reaction can be very strong and actually cause you a great deal of pain, damage and even be fatal in some cases. Here is how you can recognize an allergic reaction, treat it and also learn to prevent them in the future. Mild allergies are easily treatable. It takes time for severe ones to get completely fine.

Here are some common methods of allergy testing that are sued today in order to determine the allergy type as well as a treatment for it. This is one f the most common allergy testing applied and it conducted by inducing a small amount of the substance suspected to cause the allergy into the skin in order to make contact and provoke the allergy. This test usually takes about 30 minutes to maximum and hour as the body reacts almost instantly if there are any allergic reactions to the substance used.

Intradermal allergy testing is allergy testing is very similar to the skin prick or scratch testing with the only difference that the suspected allergens are injected into the skin in order to provoke the reaction desired. Several tests can be conducted at the same time as it takes approximately 30 minutes for any reactions to occur.

Blood tests or RAST (radioallergosorbent test) is yet another sure way to determine an allergic reaction; this test measures the level of antibodies in the body or more precisely of a specific type of antibodies, which are known as IGE that are only present when an allergic reaction occurs.

Allergy reactions can be very tricky at times and it can take several allergy testing procedures to determine the cause of your allergies because it can be anywhere from food to a new lotion you are applying. Also you need to remember that allergies can be formed even later in life for some food items that you were not allergic to before, or any other cause for that matter such as, flowers, perfume animal dander or dust. In fact as we grow older our immune system grows weaker and we are more prone to develop allergies to things that did not bother us before.

As soon as you become aware of your allergy, you must see a good doctor. Allergy tests are done and your allergy is confirmed. Once allergy is confirmed, you will be undergoing medications in case of severe allergy.

If you want to get out of the threatening situation quickly what you can do is completely avoid the allergen. If it is a food allergy, you must properly check the ingredients of the food bought from outside. If it contains the substance even in small quantities, you must avoid it.

One of the problems for people with allergies is identification of things that they should stay away from to keep feeling good.  Food allergy symptoms are not unique, so when these symptoms appear, those suffering do not know if they are allergic to food or their husband.  The food allergy symptoms could be eliminated if these people knew the source so they could avoid this source.  People can experiment on their own to try and identify the source of their allergies, but this could be time consuming and inconclusive.

Allergies can be life threatening also. Allergy testing is an answer to the severe problem of allergy.
