Abidec

What is it?
Abidecs are multivitamin combinations that contain fat soluble vitamin A and D and the water soluble vitamin C, B1, B2, B6, and nicotinamide. It is both given to adults and children. In most cases, adults can get the required amount of vitamins in their diets, however, some infants and children; do not get the proper vitamins. It is in this case that Abidecs are given. It is primarily used as a supplement to the infant and child’s diet. Abidecs are given to treat individuals who have a vitamin shortage in the body that may occur due to an illness, pregnancy, problems with nutrition, problems with stomach absorption. An individual needs these vitamins in order to maintain proper body growth. Lack of these vitamins in the individual’s body can lead to cause a group of vitamin deficiency diseases.

How to take it?
Abidecs have to be recommended by a doctor. You should take it with a glass of water; also it should be taken with food which will make it less likely that your stomach will become upset. Abidecs is also available in a chewable tablet form. These tablets need to be chewed fully before the individual swallows it. It also comes in a liquid form. This has to be taken with the enclosed measuring spoon or cup. This way the patient always gets the correct dosage. It also comes in capsule and injectable form.

Warnings and Precautions
You should not exceed the dosage since an individual can get vitamins from their diet naturally; you have to take precautions in taking this medication. Large doses of Abidecs can be very dangerous to the infant, child or adult taking the medication. It should not be taken if an individual is allergic to peanut oil. Remember many children under the age of three can develop peanut allergies due to exposure to products that contain them. You need to make sure that your infant or child is not allergic to peanuts or peanut type products before administering this medication to them. Abidec drops are designed for use on infants, and should not be taken by adults. This medication is not intended for use if an individual is pregnant or breast feeding.

If you are going to take this medication, tell your doctor about any other prescription or non-prescription drugs that you might be taking. Your dosage level may have to be adjusted to accommodate for these other types of medications. There is not reported evidence that this medication interacts with other medicines, but each individual is different and all medications should still be reported to your doctor.

What should you do if you miss a dose?
If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next dose, then you should skip the missed dose, and only take the next dose. Do not under any circumstances double up on your dosage.

What are the side effects?
Abidecs can cause some common side effects such as nausea, constipation, black stools, and diarrhea. If a person is allergic to Abidec then you might have a reaction to it that includes difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face. These side effects require immediate medication attention. Taking Abidecs with food can lower your risk of having some of these side effects. Other side effects can occur, if you have any changes in your health after taking this medication, then contact your doctor immediately for assistance. Your pharmacist can provide you with a print out of the common side effects for you to have as a reference guide and referral while the individual is taking this medication.

How to store this medication?
This medication should be stored a room temperature. It should be kept away from heat and moisture.

What does it look like?
Abidecs comes in tablet, capsule, liquid and injecatable form. A bottle of drops contains 25 ml. A dosage of .3 ml is recommended for children under the age of one and .6 for children age one or over.

What if you overdose?
If you overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Most common symptoms of overdose include nausea and vomiting.
