Ethinyl Estradiol and Norelgestromin:

Generic Name: The generic name of the medicine is ethinyl estradiol and norelgestromin. The medicine contains estrogen and progesterone, female hormones and used to prevent pregnancy. This medicine can be used for other purposes also.

Precaution:

  • If you had or have high blood pressure, heart attack or valvular disease, inform your doctor before taking the medicine.
  • If you have diabetes, liver or kidney problem, discuss with your doctor before taking the medicine.
  • If you are suffering from vaginal bleeding, breast or cervical cancer, you should inform your doctor.
  • The medicine may be less effective, if you are overweight.
  • If you have a history of epilepsy, migraine, headache, you should inform your doctor.
  • If you have gallbladder problem or high lipids and cholesterol, you should inform your doctor.
  • If you are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, you should not use Ethinyl estradiol and norelgestamin.
  • If you are nursing mother prescribed with ethinyl and estradiol norelgestramin, you should consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
  • If two drugs are taken together,they may interact with each other. If you are taking any prescribed or non-prescribed, food supplements or herbal medicine, you should inform your doctor before taking ethinyl estradiol and norelgestramin.
  • If you forget to change your ethinyl estradiol and norelgestamin patch on the first day of week, you may become pregnant. In such a case you should use other contraceptive to avoid pregnancy.

 

Warning:

  • Ethinyl estradiol and norelgestramin cannot protect you from infecting yourself from sexually transmitted diseases.
  • If your age is more than 35, you should avoid cigarette smoking.
  • You should carry out regular check up including your breast checkup.

 

Overdose:

  • The symptoms of overdose may vary from person to person.
  • The symptoms of overdose may be nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding.
  • If you observe any of the symptoms or any other symptoms, you should contact to your doctor immediately.

 

 

 

Side Effects:

  • The common side effects of ethinyl estradiol and norelgestramin may include headache, skin rashes, change of color of skin, dizziness, change of weight and breast irregularity.
  • The more serious side effects include allergic reaction (swelling in face, lip throat and difficulty in respiration), vision problem, blurred vision, sudden darkness, chest pain, pain in arms and legs, vaginal bleeding, yellowness in skin and eyes, abdominal cramps, headache, dizziness, vomiting, breast lumps, fatigue, swelling or tenderness in abdomen.
  • Some other side effects may also be observed. If you observe any of the symptoms as mentioned or any other symptom, you should talk to your doctor immediately.

 

How to take:

  • Ethinyl estradiol and norelgestramin should be taken only if prescribed by the doctor.
  • Ethinyl estradiol and nlrelgestramin should be used exactly as directed by your doctor.
  • You should use one patch for exactly one week, after each week, the pack should be changed. You have to carry out this procedure for three week. You should not apply patch in fourth week (menstrual week). You should apply anew patch on the same day of the week.
  • You should apply the patch on clean and dry area of your skin buttocks, abdomen. Never apply a patch on breasts. Keep rotating the place of your skin whenever you apply a new patch.
  • If a patch has fallen, replace it with a new patch immediately.

 

How to store:

    • The patch should be stored at room temperature out of reach of children
    • The ethinyl estradiol and norelgestramin patches should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
    • Outdated medicines should not be used.
