Econazole

Brand Name: Spectazole

What is it?
Econazole is in the category of drugs referred to as antifungals. These are used to treat infections that are caused by a fungus. It works by killing the fungus and preventing it from growing. Doctors usually recommend it for athlete’s foot, jock itch and ringworm. In some instances, Econazole has also been used in the treatment of vaginal yeast infections.

How to take it?
Econazole needs to be prescribed by your doctor. It comes in a cream form. An individual applies the cream to the skin, and the affected area. It is usually used once or twice a day, you should apply it once in the morning and once in the evening. Before applying, make sure that the area is thoroughly clean, allow it to dry and then gently apply the cream to the affected area. An individual should rub it in slowing, so that it appears to have been absorbed by the skin. You should just apply enough of the cream to cover the affected area, you do not want to place it in areas not affected. Make sure to wash your hands after you have applied the cream, as it can get into your eyes and face and cause burning and irritations. It can sometimes take a few weeks for the medication to work. In some rare instances, it can take a month and a half for an individual to see some results. This medication is not recommended for children under the age of twelve and should be used cautiously in older adults as well.

Only wear socks that are made of cotton, and make sure to change them on a daily basis. Try to keep the infected area as cool and as dry as you possibly can.

An individual should also avoid using creams and lotions that are perfumed and fragrant, and opt for using plain talcum powder. These scented creams and lotions can make the area more inflamed and irritated.
