Estradiol and Norethindrone acetate:

Generic Name: The generic name of the medicine is Estradiol & Norethindrone acetate. It is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and the tablet contains both estrogen and progestin. The medicine is used for preventing post menopause osteoporosis.  Estradiol and Norethindrone acetate may also be used for other purposes not listed here.

Precautions:

  • If you have allergy to progestin, estrogen , or any other steroid, inform your doctor before taking estradiol and  norethindrone acetate.
  • If you have breast or ovary cancer, estrogen may increase tumor.
  • If you observe any vaginal bleeding during the estrogen therapy, you should immediately contact to your doctor.
  • If you have heart, kidney or liver disease, estradiol and  norethindrone acetate should be prescribed with caution.
  • If you have vaginal infection or abnormal vaginal bleeding , you should inform your doctor.
  • If you have a uterus cancer, estradiol may increase the tumor.
  • If you are having high blood pressure, high lipids and high blood sugar, asthma, gall bladder disease, migraine, headache, seizers, seizers and hysterectomy , inform your doctor before inserting the ring.
  • If you are suffering from porphyria, estradiol may worsen the disease.
  • Estradiol and norethindrone acetate when taken with the combinations of other drug may change the effect of the medicine. If you are taking any other drug, you should consult your doctor before taking estogen therapy.
  • If you are pregnant or plan to pregnant, you should not use the estradiol and northindrone acetate.
  • If you are a nursing woman taking estradiol and  norethindrone acetate, you should avoid breast-feeding.

 

Warning:

  • If you have a history of breast cancer and you are on estradiol and  norethindrone acetate. You should carry out a regular breast check up.
  • If your age is more than 35, you are advised not to smoke.
  • You should also carry out regular check ups for your general health including eye check up.
  • If you use higher dose of the medicine or for a longer period, may cause some problems related to heart, liver or kidney. You should carry out frequent check up to establish the side effects, if any of this therapy.
  • You should consult your doctor for use of sunscreen and protective clothing.
  • Take estradiol and  norethindrone acetate as directed by your physician.

 

Overdose:

  • An overdose of estradiol and  norethindrone acetate may cause the symptoms like dizziness, nausea, weakness and vaginal bleeding.
  •  You should seek immediate medical help, if you observe any of these symptoms.

 

Side Effects:

  • The possible side effects of long-term use of estradiol and  norethindrone acetate   may include allergic problem  (swelling in throat, face, chest tightness, breathing problem, irritation at the site), abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting unusual vaginal bleeding, weakness in arm, leg and blurred vision, you should contact to your doctor if you observe such problems.
  • The common less serious side effects include, gall bladder problem, swelling and tenderness, headache, high blood sugar, skin rashes, spots in face and other parts of skin, dizziness, clotting disorders, depression, migraine, dry mouth, yellowness in face and eyes, cough, constipation, vaginal yeast infection and diarrhea and weakness.
  • Some other side effects may also occur. In all such cases you should consult your doctor.

 

How to take:

  • Apply the medicine as per direction given by your doctor to a clean smooth dry area in lower abdomen.
  • Do exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Do not use the medicine
  • Follow the doctor’s advice for diet.
  • If you have missed a dose, take as soon as you remember. If it the time of next dose use single dose. In no case you should apply the double dose.

 
How to store:

  • Estradiol and Norethindrone acetate should be stored at room temperature preferable below 30 degree centigrade and out of reach of children
  • The medicine should be kept out of excessive heat and moisture.
  • Outdated medicines should not be used.
