Hydrocet Drug Information: Side Effects and Precautions

What is Hydrocet?

Known also as Hydrocodone and Vicodon, Hydrocet is a pain reliever that also suppresses cough. Hydrocet can also help to reduce fever. In many respects, Hydrocet is very similar to codeine. Hydrocet is an excellent pain relief medication. Hydrocet is a narcotic medication, and should be taken only as prescribed by a physician. Do not give this medication to anyone for any reason, and do not take this medication unless needed for pain relief.

How to Use Hydrocet

Most physicians will prescribe Hydrocet in tablet form, to be taken as needed every four to six hours. A maximum dosage of eight tablets per day is usually employed by most physicians. These tablets are taken orally by mouth. It is very important to use Hydrocet only as prescribed by your physician, and to stop taking Hydrocet as soon as you are instructed by your doctor to do so. Do not continue taking this medication if a medical professional tells you to stop. Do not take more than your prescribed dosage of Hydrocet at one time.

What Are The Possible Side Effects of Using Hydrocet?

With any medication that you take, there is always some risk of possible side effects associated with the drug. You should consult with your physician regarding any side effects you may be experiencing. Often, there are ways that certain side effects can be alleviated. Some of the most common side effects associated with Hydrocet include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Lightheadedness/dizziness
  • Constipation
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Mania
  • Other changes in mood
  • Drowsiness
  • Restlessness

In the case of an overdose, you should know the side effects and signs associated with Hydrocet. Should you experience any of the following side effects associated with overdose, consult your physician and seek medical help as soon as possible:

  • Cold, clammy skin
  • Bluish skin
  • Extreme sleepiness
  • Generalized body discomfort and/or ache
  • Heavy perspiration
  • Limp muscles, weakened feeling in muscles
  • Low blood pressure
  • Persistent nausea
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Persistent vomiting

Warnings and Precautions Before Taking Hydrocet

Because Hydrocet is a narcotic, it can be habit-forming. Those who have experienced narcotics addition in the past should consult with their physician before taking Hydrocet. When you are told to stop taking this medication, do so. Narcotics addiction of any kind can be extremely dangerous, so follow the doctor’s instructions exactly concerning this medicine.

This medication has been known to cause drowsiness in some patients. Until you know what your reaction to this drug will be, do not operate heavy machinery or drive a car when taking Hydrocet.

What Should You Do If You Miss a Dose of Hydrocet?

If you accidentally skip or miss a dose of Hydrocet, take that dosage as soon as you realize it has been skipped. However, skip the dose if your normal dosing schedule calls for another dose of Hydrocet. You do not want to double dose or over dose this medication.  It is very important that you take your prescribed dosage as directed by your physician.

How to Store Hydrocet

Hydrocet should be stored at room temperature, and should be kept tightly closed in the container it is given to you in. Keep Hydrocet out of the bathroom and sink areas where it may be exposed to dampness or heat, and do not allow Hydrocet to be exposes to freezing temperatures such as those found in conventional refrigerators. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children. Be sure to discard any medications that may be past the expiration date.
