What is Flecainide (Tambocor)?

Tambocor comes from the family of drugs known as antiarrhythmics.  It is able to regulate the flow of sodium into the heart cells.  It is used to correct irregular heartbeats.  It does this by slowing the nerve impulses to the heart and makes the heart tissue less sensitive.  Due to the risks involved in using Tambocor, it is only used for the most serious heart rhythm problems.

How To Take Flecainide

It comes in tablet form and is taken by mouth.  It should never be crushed or chewed, and should only be swallowed whole.  It is important to keep a steady amount of the medication in the blood stream, and for this reason should be taken at regular intervals without missing any doses.  It is normally taken every12 hours, but be sure to take the medication exactly as directed by your doctor.  It should be taken with a full glass of water, and may be taken either with or without food.  If this medication upsets your stomach, it may be taken with milk or antacids.
