Finacea:

Generic Name: The generic name of the medicine is azelaic acid, which is a natural acid. Finacea is used for treating acne and rosacea. Rosacea is a skin disorder and causes red eruptions on cheeks and nose. Finacea helps in regaining the skin in its original shape and also helps in the bacteria responsible for causing acne and rosacea.

Finacea is available in the form of topical gel and can be used for other purposes also.

Precaution:

  • If you are allegic to finacea, you should not use finacea.
  • Do not use finacea on burned, dry or irritated skin.
  • Finacea should not be used on wounds or skin affected by eczema.
  • Avoid using alcoholic cleaners or tinctures while using finacea.
  • As finacea is a FDA pregnancy B class medicine, and it is not expected to affect unborn baby, even though if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, you should consult your doctor before using finacea.
  • If two drugs are taken together, they may interact with each other. If you are taking any prescribed or non-prescribed, food supplements or herbal medicine including antidepressants, anxiety medicines and sedatives, you should inform your doctor before using finacea.

 

Warning:

  • In the starting days Finacea may cause itching or burning sensation. If it continues, inform your doctor.
  • Abnormal skin color change should be brought in the notice of your doctor.
  • After applying finacea topical medicine, you should not cover the area.
  • If you are a nursing mother, you should consult your doctor before using finacea, as it is not known whether this medicine affects infants.

 

Overdose:

  • The chances of an overdose of the medicine are rare.
  • If you suspect overdose of finacea, you should seek immediate medical help.

 

 

 

 

 

Side Effects:

  • The common side effects of finacea may include burning, tingling, itching, redness, dryness, irritation and stinging for the first few weeks. If these side effects persist, consult your doctor.
  • Other rare side effects may include allergic reactions ( rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), worsening of cold sores, worsening of asthma, abnormal change of skin color.
  • Some other side effects may also be observed. If you observe any of the symptoms as mentioned or any other symptom, you should talk to your doctor immediately.

 

How to take:

  • Use finacea topical gel only if prescribed by the doctor.
  • You should use the medicine exactly as directed by your doctor.
  • You should apply finacea on a clean, dry affected area. Before applying the medicine, the affected area should be washed with soap less cleaning lotion.
  • You should apply finacea twice daily or as per direction given by your doctor.
  • Avoid the contact of medicine with lip, mouth, eyes and nose.
  • Do not cover the affected area.
  • Do not stop finacea without consulting your doctor. You may notice the difference after 3 to 4 weeks.

 

How to store:

    • The finacea topical gel should be stored at room temperature preferably below 30 degree centigrade and out of reach of children
    • The finacea topical gel should be kept away from excessive heat and moisture.
    • Outdated medicines should not be used.
